You don't have to be a member of the Desert Artists' League to take advantage of the opportunity to attend workshops by renowned artists! However, DAL members receive a discount on the cost of attendance. If you plan on attending two or more workshops over the next year, it is a good idea to become a member first!
Because our workshops are very popular, in order to reserve a place in an upcoming workshop, you must provide a 50% deposit. Your space in a workshop is NOT guaranteed until you pay your deposit.
Sign-ups are announced at the general meeting about 4 months in advance of the workshop. If more applicants sign up at that meeting than the class will hold, there will be a lottery to determine who has a firm place and who is on the waiting list.
Exception: If an artist is retained as a result of contact made by (and at the request of) a member, that member has a guaranteed space in the workshop as long as the deposit is paid within two weeks of the announcement.
After sign-ups, applicants have two weeks (14 days) to provide a deposit. If a deposit is not received within 14 days, the first person on the waiting list will be given an opportunity to provide a deposit, thereby bumping the non-paying applicant. (For example, if you are the third person to sign up but don't pay the deposit in 14 days and someone on the waiting list pays a deposit before you do, you will be bumped.)
If you decide to withdraw from the workshop, you may receive a refund ONLY if:
1. There is already someone on the waiting list to take your place, or
2. You find someone to take your place (you get your deposit back from that person), or
3. DAL has enough profit from the workshop to reimburse you. In this case, you will only be reimbursed up to the amount of profit. (That is, if you provided a payment of $50 and DAL makes $20, you will only be reimbursed $20.)
If more than one person withdraws, the reimbursements will be divided evenly.
